Absopulse Electronics have recently added to their line of fully encapsulated, convection cooled, industrial quality DC-DC converters with the PDC 250-HSA-P59 series.
The 250W units are entirely potted with a thermally conductive MIL-grade silicon rubber compound with a UL94V-0 flammability rating. Full encapsulation provides immunity to shock, vibration, moisture, humidity, dust, salt, fog, and other contaminants, as well as ensuring heat dissipation throughout the module. The converters are suitable for operation in extreme environments including transportation, heavy industry, mining, and power generation and distribution.
Convection cooling is achieved via a heatsink assembly block specifically designed for the encapsulated unit and attached to its under-surface. The converters are rated for operation over a -40 to +70oC cold plate temperature range for full specification; wider temperature ranges are available on request.
The heatsink assembly can be mounted to a chassis or DIN-rail. The chassis-mounted option is suitable for applications in which a heat sinking surface is not available. The heatsink assembly also allows for mounting on thermally non-conductive surfaces such as wood, plastic, and brick walls. DIN-rail mounting clips are available.
The 250W converters deliver a single regulated output of 12Vdc, 24Vdc, 36Vdc, 48Vdc, or 72Vdc. They operate from 24Vdc (21V-30V), 48Vdc (42V-60V), or 125Vdc (95V-140V). Custom input and output voltages are available. Regulation is better than 1% from zero loads to full load across all line and load conditions. Efficiency is 80% at full load.
Filtering on the input and output contributes to low output ripple and noise. The input meets EN55032 Class A with wide margins; Class B is available on request. The converters also comply with EN/UL60950-1 and equivalent UL and CSA international safety standards. Comprehensive electronic protection includes 1500Vdc input-output isolation, inrush current limiting, rectangular current limiting with short-circuit protection on the output, and thermal shutdown with automatic reset in case of insufficient cooling.
