Monolithic Power Systems Introduces Automotive Qualified Synchronous Step-Down Converter

Monolithic Power Systems features its AEC-Q100 Qualified Ultra-Low Quiescent Current Synchronous Step-Down Converter. The MPQ4346 is a configurable-frequency (350 kHz to 2.5 MHz), synchronous, step-down switching regulator with integrated internal high-side and low-side power MOSFETs. It provides up to 3 A of highly efficient output current (IOUT) with fixed-frequency, zero-delay pulse-width modulation (PWM) control to optimize transient response.

The wide 3.3 V to 36 V input voltage (VIN) range with 42 V load dump tolerance accommodates a variety of step-down applications in automotive input environments. A 1μA quiescent current (IQ) in shutdown mode allows the device to be used in battery-powered applications.

High power conversion efficiency across the wide load range is achieved by scaling down the switching frequency under light-load conditions to reduce switching and gate driver losses. An open-drain power good signal indicates whether the output is within 94% to 106% of its nominal voltage.

Thermal shutdown provides reliable, fault-tolerant operation. A high-duty cycle and low-dropout mode are provided for automotive cold-crank conditions.

The MPQ4346 is available in a QFN-17 (3 mm x 4 mm) package, and is AEC-Q100 qualified.
