WePower Technologies, a kinetic energy harvesting startup providing scalable and sustainable power solutions for wireless IoT sensors, transmitters, and related devices, has unveiled its Gemns Energy Harvesting Generator (EHG) product line.
The Gemns product line includes three different products, each of which uses both permanent and oscillating magnets to harvest kinetic energy through electromagnetic induction: the Gemns G100 Integrated RF Switch, the Gemns G200 EHG, and the Gemns G300 EHG.
Each of these Gemns devices provides a kinetic energy transient that can be used to activate a sensor, gather data, create a data packet, and transmit a radio signal with the range and reliability required to advance the RF communication requirements of the IoT market.
WePower has developed with Gemns a revolutionary method of harvesting kinetic energy, improving energy output from 100 uJ to over 3 mJ, with product lifespans surpassing one million actuation cycles. As end-user access to the device for battery replacement is no longer required, manufacturers who use Gemns products as components in their IoT devices will also enjoy new design freedoms.
The Gemns product line includes the following devices:
- Gemns G100 Integrated RF Switch. The G100, a wireless industrial push button, serves as the first proof of concept for the expanding Gemns product lineup and has been tested to over 1 million activations. The G100 has room for Gemns’ energy harvesting circuit as well as an additional PCB that serves as the transmitter in a typical setup. Automotive, smart cities, and aerospace are anticipated applications beyond the industry
- Gemns G200 EHG. The G200 is the workhorse and the most powerful EHG of the Gemns series. Automotive, home/office IoT and other higher energy applications are anticipated to benefit greatly from the G200’s initial design for industrial IoT applications in safety and limit switches
- Gemns G300 EHG. This is a high-output device with a low activation force that can be used in consumer lighting and smart home products, as well as in upcoming Internet of Things products where novel activation techniques will be investigated.
WePower will demo Gemns in prototype use cases during CES 2023. One demo is a wireless and batteryless water sensor that floats in the toilet tank harvesting energy to power communications on the health of the toilet. In another use case, WePower will show how Gemns EHGs power Bluetooth sensors and devices through motion.
