Nisshinbo Unveils Voltage Detector ICs for Automotive and Industrial Applications

Nisshinbo Micro Devices has launched the NV3600, which can set a detection voltage and release voltage individually and set a wider hysteresis range than before, and the NV3601, which can monitor an under voltage and an over-voltage simultaneously, as voltage detectors for automotive and industrial equipment.

In recent years, as automotive and industrial equipment have become more sophisticated, there has been an increasing demand for power supply voltage monitoring and safety performance. In line with this trend, the performance of voltage detectors has become more diverse and advanced, such as an adjustment of the hysteresis width, simultaneous monitoring of the under voltage and over voltage, and high accuracy voltage monitoring. However, existing voltage detectors often have difficulty meeting these requirements due to fixed hysteresis width or the need for multiple voltage detectors to monitor the under-voltage and over-voltage. These will increase power consumption and affect battery life.

The NV3600 and NV3601 series released by Nisshinbo Micro Devices solve the above problems and improve system safety without worrying about power consumption in voltage monitoring for automotive auxiliary batteries and AC/DC output voltage of industrial equipment. Nisshinbo Micro Devices Inc. will continue to pursue technological advancement by working more closely with the industry.

With the NV3600 series, the detection voltage and release voltage can be set individually, and the hysteresis width can be set as desired. The detection voltage can be set from 3.3 V to 19.8 V, and the release voltage can be set from 4.5 V to 22.2 V. While conventional products with hysteresis width, the difference between the detection voltage and the release voltage, have generally been limited to about 1% to 5%, this product allows the hysteresis width to be set to match the voltage fluctuation range of the equipment. This product can easily prevent false detection and false release due to large voltage fluctuations such as those that occur when cranking an automobile battery.

The NV3601 series offers window monitoring, which enables simultaneous monitoring of the under voltage and over voltage. The under voltage detection can be specified in the range from 3.3 V to 19.8 V and the over voltage detection in the range from 4.5 V to 22.2 V, with the hysteresis width (1%) or without. Because this single voltage detector monitors both the under voltage and over voltage, it reduces the number of components and saves mounting space. In addition, a battery life can be extended by suppressing power consumption.

Because both products achieve the detection voltages with high accuracy of ±0.6% at room temperature and can directly monitor high voltages such as 12 V without external voltage divider resistors, these products reduce unnecessary current flowing through external resistors. In addition, a CMOS output type is also available. Since this type does not require pull-up resistors, the dark current at the time of low signal output can be reduced. These contribute greatly to the power consumption measures for an entire system.
