Samsung Electro-Mechanics‘ new multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) will expand the portfolio of compact, high-capacitance solutions available to automotive system manufacturers. The newly developed CL31B106KBK6PJ# is a 1206-inch (3.2 x 1.6 mm) capacitor with a rating of 10µF at 50V.
As automobile electrification and functionality progress, the number of MLCCs in vehicles is swiftly increasing. Today, a vehicle’s critical devices can number in the thousands. MLCCs contribute to the safety and dependability of vehicles by ensuring the stability of on-board circuits. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is developing a series of solutions that meet the industry’s requirements for miniaturization, stability, and capacitance in order to meet the expanding demand for MLCCs with optimal performance in powertrain and safety system applications.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics utilizes the skills and knowledge of its in-house production engineering team to assist its extensive list of automotive consumers. The company was able to construct the 10µF MLCC in 1206 size with a 50V rating by employing a proprietary ceramic and electrode material atomization technique, as well as ultra-precision lamination. Importantly, the novel MLCC maintains its properties in the hostile environments inherent to road travel.
The new device is equipped with an X7R TCC (temperature co-efficient of capacitance), allowing for a 15% deviation tolerance between -55°C and +125°C. This is an improvement over MLCCs with TCC characteristics of X7S (22%) and X7T (+22%/-33%). Samples of the new CL31B106KBK6PJ# multilayer ceramic capacitor are now available from Samsung Electro-Mechanics upon request.
