Monolithic Power Systems Unveils 6 A Dual-Output Power Module for Industrial Applications

Monolithic Power Systems has unveiled MPM54532, a dual-output power module that is capable of delivering an output current of 6 A with an embedded digital interface for control. This module integrates a high-efficiency, step-down DC/DC converter IC, two inductors, and selected passive components in a single over-molded package.

The two outputs channels of the MPM54532 can be paralleled to deliver up to 12 A of current. The power module offers an active current balancing function that allows for equal current sharing between the outputs in parallel operation. The MPM54532 offers a dedicated, configurable low-dropout (LDO) regulator with up to 500 mA of output current to provide an ultra-low noise output.

The MPM54532 provides an on-chip non-volatile memory (NVM) to store and restore device configurations. Operation parameters, timing, and protection thresholds are fully configurable via the digital interface. It also features on-chip current and voltage sensing that allows for accurate input voltage, output voltage, output current, and temperature telemetry via the digital interface.

This power module requires an input voltage from 2.9 V to 16 V, provides an output voltage of up to 1.8 V, and has a peak efficiency of over 90%. It is available in an ultra-thin ECLGA package that measures 5 mm x  5 mm x 1.85 mm and is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
