Microchip Technology to Showcase Power Electronics Insights and Technologies at APEC 2024

Microchip Technologies, a leading provider of smart, connected and secure embedded control solutions, is set to showcase its latest advancements in power solutions at the APEC 2024 Conference. Attendees can visit booth #1853 at the Long Beach Convention Center to learn more about the practical and applied aspects of the power electronics business.

Demo Overview

  • USB Power Delivery (PD) Dual Charge Demo: The demo board is a USB PD-dedicated charging circuit with two USB Type-C ports for two loads. This two-port USB charging solution supports USB 3.0 PD protocols, including PPS. Protections, supported charge profiles, current limits, thermal management and power-sharing capabilities are configured and managed through an external GUI.
  • 30-kW Vienna 3-Phase Power Factor Correction (PFC) Reference Design: This demo showcases the reference design for Hybrid Electric Vehicle/Electric Vehicle (HEV/EV) chargers and high-power switch mode power supply applications.
  • 30-kW Phase-Shifted Full-Bridge (PSFB) DC-DC Converter Reference Design: The demo showcases Hybrid Electric Vehicle/Electric Vehicle (HEV/EV) chargers and high-power switch mode power supply applications.
  • 30-kW EV Charger: This demo showcases Hybrid Electric Vehicle/Electric Vehicle (HEV/EV) chargers and high-power switch mode power supply applications.
  • Plug-and-Play SiC Gate Driver Demos for Various Power Modules and ASDAK: Our plug-and-play SiC gate series simplifies gate driver design for our mSiC products.
  • mSiC Products Package: Our mSiC products:  provide the lowest system cost, fastest time to market and lowest risk. Our solutions include the industry’s broadest and most flexible portfolio of SiC diodes, MOSFETs and gate drivers.
  • MPLAB SiC Power Simulator: The MPLAB SiC Power Simulator calculates the power losses and estimates junction temperature for SiC devices using lab testing data for common power converter topologies in DC-AC, AC-DC and DC-DC applications. This simulator allows you to evaluate device performance quickly in your power converter design.
  • SA50 Series Space-Grade Radiation-Hardened Isolated Power Converter: Radiation-hardened DC-DC power converters—the only standard non-hybrid space-grade DC-DC power converters available—utilize surface-mount component construction, allowing flexibility and customization to fit specific applications and requirements.
  • High-Reliability Mission Critical Electromechanical Power Relays: Our power relays deliver high-quality, mission-critical electromechanical power relays for aerospace applications with exceptional protection against harsh environments, pollutants and contaminants. Our space-grade relays have a proven flight history in groundbreaking projects such as Mars rovers and the International Space Station.
  • Integrated Actuation Module for Aviation: This demo highlights our integrated and intelligent capabilities of HPD510 for actuation. This demo shows our full power management solution capabilities to enable the decarbonization of aerospace applications.
  • High-Voltage Power Module Products: Due to a formidable array of technologies in semiconductors, packaging and automated manufacturing can produce a wide range of high-quality modules optimized for reliability, efficiency, electrical performance, cost and space savings and reduced assembly time.
  • Automotive Taillight Demo: Our automotive taillight demo showcases a simpler, centralized system design. With a generic base design to customize or complicate as required, the MCP1633 provides the flexibility our customers need for any automotive lighting application.
  • Portable Power Tool Demo: The global portable power tools market is on the rise and DIY culture is one of the major drivers of its growth. Toolmakers are designing easy-to-use tools with smart technology for improved performance and safety. BLDC motors have gained popularity in new products due to their ability to produce less friction, heat and longer motor life.  To capture the additional market share of this growing market, power tool manufacturers must develop smaller, cost-effective, highly efficient and higher-performance designs.
  • Automotive Cooling Fan Reference Design: This reference design supports the goal of improving overall vehicle efficiency by integrating the motor controller, gate drivers, and the LIN transceiver into a space-saving, single-chip device.
  • 11-kW Totem Pole Demonstration Application: Accelerate the development of your EV on-board charger design with our 11-kW totem pole demonstration application that offers comprehensive design files and code-generation tools, enabling rapid prototyping with our ready-to-use design.
  • Intelligent Power Solution Development Board Demonstration: An intelligent power supply does not need to be complex or expensive. We deliver everything you need to create your power conversion design: low-risk product development, lower total system cost, faster time to market, outstanding technical support, dependable delivery and quality.
  • Open Compute Project (OCP) SPDM Solution Demonstration: This demonstration unit displays how the dsPIC33C MPT secure Digital Signal Controller (DSC) is used to create a solution that satisfies the security requirement of the OCP-compliant power supply that implements the SPDM protocol.
  • Battery Management System Evaluation Board: This demo shows how to monitor a stack of six series 18650 lithium-ion batteries using the PAC1952. This battery management solution offers state-of-charge determination through coulomb-counting and passive cell balancing using a network of discrete FETs and resistors. This solution also comes with GUI support that shows battery level and balancing.
  • Power and Current Monitoring Systems for Renewable Energy: Emulate how to power your home on and off the grid with this model, including wind, solar, power grid and battery storage. This demo uses the PAC1934, our four-channel power/energy monitor with a current sensor amplifier and bus voltage monitors that feed high-resolution ADCs.
