Recom has set a new standard for a combination of size, power cost-effectiveness, and efficiency with its new RPZ series of non-isolated buck converters along with a new RPL series variant.
The RPZ series includes parts rated at 0.5 A, 1 A, 2 A, 3 A, and 6 A with input ranges down to 2.3 V and up to 7 V, depending on the variant. Output voltages are programmable down to 0.6 V and up to a value close to the input voltage. The new RPL-5.0 delivers 5 A from a wide-ranging 2.75-17 V input at a programmable output voltage between 0.6 V and 12 V.
All parts are in thermally-enhanced packages with flip-chip technology and range from just 2 x 2 mm footprint for the RPZ-0.5 with 2 mm profile to 4 x 6 x 1.6 mm for the RPZ-6.0 and RPL-5.0. Ambient operating temperature is up to 125°C with derating and efficiency is up to 92%, depending on variant.
Full protection is provided against short circuits, over-current, over-temperature, and input under-voltage for ‘fit-and-forget’ operations in demanding applications. A power good and enable pin are available on the higher-power variants.
Typical applications for the RPZ and RPL DC/DCs are for microcontrollers, sensors, embedded systems, portable electronics, IoT devices, consumer electronics, and medical devices.
