CISSOID Reveals SiC Inverter Control Modules for Electric Motor Control and Power Conversion

To further accelerate the development of Silicon Carbide based traction inverters for the e-mobility market space, Cissoid has developed a processor control board to complement its range of SiC Intelligent Power Modules (IPM).

The  SiC Inverter Control Modules (ICMs) offer optimal mechanical and electrical integration of the 3-phase 1200 V/340 - 550 A SiC MOSFET-based IPMs and the new control board. The control board is engineered to fit on top of the IPM and the co-developed high-temperature gate driver board, providing a stack of proven and robust solutions to ease the implementation of an electric drive train.

Dedicated to e-motor control and power conversion, the control board is based on Silicon Mobility's application-specific processor, the OLEA T222 Field Programmable Control Unit (FPCU). The OLEA T222 FPCU sports programmable hardware to accelerate response times to critical events, off-loading the processor cores and enhancing functional safety. The platform is supplied with highly configurable control application software supporting various types of electric motors and position sensors.

The OLEA APP – T222 INVERTER is an embedded software designed for the OLEA T222 FPCU parallel architecture, enabling high-performance, real-time control. It offers efficient and safe control of torque, speed, current, and rotor using cutting-edge algorithms. This versatile software suits a wide range of applications, supports the latest technology inverters, and leverages parallel hardware for fast control loops. It also includes a separate functional safety stack and supports a model-based design flow for seamless integration.

This unique integration of a compact low losses SiC IPM with an ultra-fast, low power consumption, critically safe real-time controller, and its corresponding software sets new levels in terms of power density and efficiency. The seamlessly integrated hardware and application software support the rapid development of SiC inverters for compact and efficient motor drives.

The OLEA T222 FPCU and the OLEA APP - T222 INVERTER software are ISO 26262 ASIL C/D certified and AUTOSAR compliant
