Sensitron has designed a 40 V, 30 A radiation-tolerant DC load switch module with 100 mV/A output current telemetry. The baseless power chip on board package design features low inductance, superior thermal performance, and low conduction loss. This device is a completely self-contained power module that can be used in various power applications. The device features a low inductance package design, superior thermal performance, and low conduction loss.
The high-side switch pass element is depletion mode based and requires a negative bias supply to turn the channel off. The switch ON state is controlled by a digital logic level input that can be directly interfaced with low voltage low voltage control signals. When the negative supply is not connected, the device will conduct current from P_IN to P_OUT due to the nature of the depletion mode pass element. Thus, careful power sequencing should be factored in. When the negative supply is provided, the load switch output will be off unless commanded by the enable signal.
The DC load switch exhibits fixed “slow” rise and fall times to minimize ringing due to cabling inductance. Additionally, a freewheeling diode is installed on the output of the high-side switch element to prevent inductive voltage spikes. Current telemetry provides a reading of the current flow through the high-side switch device based upon a 100 mV/A scaling.
A few common applications for this DC load switch include commercial satellite applications, LEO environments, space probes and vehicles, space power management and distribution, and space power tree applications.
