SkelStart Enhances Transportation Service Reliability in Nordic Countries

Batteripoolen, the distributor for the SkelStart engine starting module in Sweden, highlights the critical role of supercapacitors in enhancing public transport reliability, especially during the harsh Nordic winters. Johan Bankler, Sales Manager at Batteripoolen, explains the growing interest in supercapacitor technology, which remains unaffected by cold temperatures, making it ideal for Swedish conditions.

Based in Tranås, Sweden, Batteripoolen specializes in high-quality batteries, solar energy products, and accessories. The company caters to various sectors, providing batteries for industrial machinery, automotive applications, engine starting, and leisure activities. Since 2011, Batteripoolen has been a part of OEM International AB, a leading technology trading group in Europe.

"In Sweden, sustainability is an important topic on the public agenda," says Bankler. "Supercapacitor technology is especially interesting for us because it's not affected by cold temperatures."

Batteripoolen distributes Skeleton Technologies' supercapacitor-based SkelStart module, which is specifically designed to address engine starting issues in heavy-duty vehicles, particularly in cold weather. This module helps minimize the risk of cranking failure due to low-charged batteries, ensuring smoother operations and an extended battery lifespan.

With winter temperatures in Sweden dropping to -30 degrees Celsius or colder, the reliability of public transport becomes a significant concern. Bankler emphasizes the impact of SkelStart on bus operations, noting that operators often face issues with lead-acid batteries during winter, risking penalties for buses failing to adhere to tight schedules. "With demanding bus timetables, there's often insufficient time — a minimum of 8 hours — to fully charge the battery," he explains. "SkelStart minimizes the risk of buses not starting, which is crucial for maintaining reliable service."

As Sweden aims for net-zero emissions, technologies that offer higher reliability and meet high environmental standards are prioritized. "With sustainability at the forefront, our public transport operators prioritize sustainable solutions," Bankler adds. "SkelStart allows bus service providers to extend battery lifespan and reduce battery pack size."

By integrating SkelStart, Batteripoolen ensures that Sweden's public transport system remains robust, reliable, and sustainable even in the coldest winters.
