Recom’s popular and cost-effective RAC03-K range of miniature AC/DC converters is now available in SMT format. Parts in the RAC03-K/SMT series operate from universal 85 – 265 VAC input (alternatively 120 – 370 VDC) and provide a choice of regulated 3.3, 5, 12, 15, 18, or 24 VDC outputs rated at 3 W continuous at up to 60°C ambient (50°C for the 3.3 and 4 V variants).
In a footprint around 1” square, or just 27.7 x 27.83 mm including the ‘gullwing’ SMT terminations, the encapsulated parts are 19mm high and can be reflowed using a standard JEDEC soldering profile.
The common safety standards IEC/EN/UL62368-1, EN60335-1, and IEC61558-1 are met for reinforced isolation and the series is rated as ‘Limited Power Source’, Class II, and OVC II up to as high as 6000m (IEC 60335-1). ‘Class B’ conducted EMI limits are met without any external components for floating loads and no-load power consumption is typically 100mW for the best environmental and Ecodesign credentials.
The RAC03-K/SMT series features an advanced circuit and packaging design for high-efficiency operation reflected in an MTBF of nearly 2M hours at 25°C according to MIL-HDBK-217, GB conditions, 25°C ambient. At the same time, the parts are rugged under fault conditions, with over-current and short-circuit protection built in.
The parts are perfect for a wide range of applications, for example, providing power for IoT nodes, home/industrial automation, sensors, and household and monitoring devices, as well as for auxiliary power supplies in larger products.
