Torex Semiconductor has launched new load switch IC products, the XC8112/XC8113 series, which feature an ideal diode function.
The XC8112/XC8113 series replicates the characteristics of an ideal diode and is equipped with functions such as enable (EN), overcurrent protection, inrush current protection, and thermal shutdown. These ICs achieve an ultra-low forward voltage (VF) of only 20 mV through their ideal diode function, which is about 1/20th of the forward voltage typically found in Schottky barrier diodes used for reverse current protection, significantly extending battery life. Furthermore, despite the VF being as low as 20 mV, the reverse current from VOUT to VIN remains at 0 μA, embodying an ideal diode's characteristics. These features make it easy to implement output OR circuits and effectively reduce power consumption in backup battery applications.
The series uses constant current limiting and fold-back current limiting to manage overcurrent. The fold-back method limits short-circuit current to 50mA, allowing for safe operation even in short-circuit conditions. The thermal shutdown function prevents IC damage due to overheating. Additionally, the series is IEC62368-1:2023 certified as a current limiter, enhancing device safety and simplifying design.
The XC8112 series is equipped with 2ch 500 mA load switches, making it suitable for backup OR connections and multi-channel applications in small, power-saving uses. The XC8113 series features 2-channel 1 A load switches, which are ideal for small, high-current applications and further reduce voltage drop (low ON resistance) through parallel connections.
The packaging uses a compact, low-height USP-8B06 (2.0 x 2.0 x 0.33 mm), suitable for applications with limited area and height.
