Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Introduces Ideal Diode Protection Switch for USB-C Applications

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor, a global leader in the design and development of power devices and management ICs, has announced the launch of its AOZ1390DI-01 and AOZ1390DI-02 ideal diode protection switches. These devices are designed to enhance safety and performance in multi-port USB Type-C Power Delivery (PD) 3.0 applications up to 100 W, making them ideal for high-performance laptops, personal computers, monitors, docking stations, and other Type-C applications.

The AOZ1390DI integrates an advanced Limited Power Source (LPS) feature, which acts as a safeguard in multi-port configurations. When a port encounters a fault, the LPS functionality disables the affected port, preventing excessive power flow and protecting the system from damage. This makes the AOZ1390DI particularly beneficial for systems with multiple USB-C ports.

One of the key highlights of the AOZ1390DI is its Ideal Diode True Reverse Current Blocking (IDTRCB) technology, which prevents unwanted reverse current from VOUT to VIN, reducing voltage drop and power loss. The device also includes an internal back-to-back MOSFET with industry-leading low ON resistance, enabling efficient power management and safe operation with high currents.

Additional features include programmable soft-start, Input Under-Voltage Lock Out (UVLO), Input Over-Voltage Protection (OVP), and Short Circuit Protection (SCP). The device’s thermal capabilities are enhanced by a thermally optimized DFN3.5x3-14L package, making it a reliable choice for demanding applications.

Available in two variants, the AOZ1390DI-01 will automatically restart once a fault is cleared, while the AOZ1390DI-02 requires a manual reset. Both versions are now available in production quantities, with pricing set at $1.40 per unit for orders of 1,000 pieces.
