TDK Introduces Industry's Highest Capacitance MLCCs

TDK Corporation has expanded its CGA series for automotive and C series for commercial applications by introducing multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) with 10 nF capacitance at 1,250 V in a compact 3225 size (3.2 x 2.5 x 2.5 mm). These capacitors feature C0G characteristics (Class I dielectric), making them ideal for high-voltage and high-temperature applications. TDK highlights this as the industry’s highest capacitance for a 1,250-V rated product in this size and temperature characteristic. Mass production began in December 2024.

As circuits using silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs grow in adoption due to their high-temperature and high-voltage capabilities, demand for robust resonant and snubber capacitors continues to rise. The trend toward higher voltage and current circuits aims to reduce the charging times of electric vehicles, necessitating components with superior voltage resistance.

TDK's new MLCCs with C0G characteristics exhibit minimal capacitance changes across temperature and voltage variations. Their optimized product and process design enhance high-voltage resistance, enabling compatibility with advanced high-voltage circuits. This reduces the need for multiple MLCCs in series, contributing to space-saving designs and reducing heat generation in applications.
