Innoscience Unveils 100 V Half-Bridge Driver for GaN FETs

Innoscience has introduced the INS2002, a 100 V half-bridge driver designed to enhance the performance of gallium nitride (GaN) field-effect transistors (FETs). Tailored to overcome the limitations of conventional MOSFET drivers, the INS2002 integrates advanced features to optimize power efficiency and reliability.

A key innovation of the INS2002 is its internal smart bootstrap (BST) switch, which prevents overcharging of the high-side driver supply during dead times. This feature protects the GaN FET gate while ensuring a stable gate voltage for both drivers, contributing to more consistent operation.

The driver also enhances gate switching timing by actively monitoring true gate voltages, enabling near-zero dead time—a crucial factor for improving efficiency and supporting high-frequency operation. For added flexibility, users can fine-tune dead times using external resistors to meet specific application requirements.

The INS2002 features a tri-state PWM input, allowing it to be driven high, low, or left floating for both sides of switches off. Additionally, it offers split outputs to adjust turn-on and turn-off speeds independently. Its strong driving capability and fast propagation delay make the INS2002 suitable for high-power and high-frequency applications.

Features of INS2002

  • Single tri-state PWM input
  • Split outputs for adjustable turn-on/-off speeds
  • Strong 1-ohm pull-up and 0.2-ohm pull-down resistance
  • Internal strong and smart bootstrap switch
