The TLE9009DQU from Infineon Technologies is an Automotive-Grade Battery Monitoring and Balancing IC that has been designed for managing Lithium-ion battery cells. It requires an input voltage of 3-60 V. The primary function of this IC is to measure the voltage levels and temperature of all battery cells (up to 9) connected in series. It has a dedicated 16-bit delta-sigma A/D converter (or ADC) for each cell that provides high-accuracy measurements with an initial accuracy of ±0.2 mV at an ambient temperature. This AEC-Q100-qualified IC also has a secondary ADC with identical averaging filter characteristics as an advanced end-to-end safety mechanism. It integrates a stress sensor with a digital compensation algorithm and temperature-compensated measurements.
This battery monitoring IC has 2 internal sensors along with 5 channels for negative temperature coefficient (NTC) elements for robust temperature measurements. It follows the round-robin cycle routine that triggers the majority of diagnostics mechanisms such as automatic open load and open wire detection, automatic NTC measurements, and automatic balancing over-current and under-current detection. This RoHS-compliant IC communicates based on UART/iso UART protocols with end-to-end CRC error correction and supports differential serial interface delivering data rates of up to 2 Mbps. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 9 x 9 mm and is ideal for energy storage systems, hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and 12/48 V Li-ion battery applications.
