The TLE9012AQU from Infineon Technologies is a Multi-Cell Li-ion Battery Monitoring and Balancing IC that is designed for Li-ion battery packs used in hybrid electric vehicles (HEV, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), battery electric vehicles (BEV), as well as in 12 V Li-ion batteries. It requires an input voltage of 4.75-60 V. This BMIC can monitor, communicate, and control up to 12 cells that are connected in series. It is equipped with a cell management unit, diagnosis unit with round robin, auxiliary/temperature and voltage measurement unit, UART/GPIO block, iso UART interface, and a power supply unit. This AEC-Q100-qualified BMIC uses a 16-bit high-resolution ADC per cell, a built-in noise filtering function, and a user-selectable bit length to conduct high accuracy and temperature-compensated measurements. It connects 5 channels to an external NTC that allows for internal temperature measurements.
This ASIL-C-certified device integrates a balancing switch to allow a balancing current of up to 150 mA. The iso UART interface integrated into both the low and high side consists of a power-balanced communication scheme and allows serial communication between battery blocks at a rate of 2 Mbps. It has a detector circuit to sense internal open-load conditions with diagnostic tools to ensure proper functioning, thereby guaranteeing the safety of the person around the controlled battery. This RoHS-compliant BMIC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 9 x 9 mm.
