The MP2678EG-LF-Z from Monolithic Power Systems is a Single Cell Li-ion and Li-Polymer Battery Charger Protection IC that has been designed to tolerate input surges up to 30 V. It requires an input voltage of up to 30 V and provides an output voltage of 5 V. This battery management IC (BMIC) can be driven similar to a linear regulator to maintain a regulated output of 5 V while utilizing the MPS proprietary battery over-voltage protection (OVP) threshold. This IC includes robust protection features such as input OVP, output short-circuit protection (SCP), MPS’s proprietary battery OVP, and over-current protection (OCP) for high reliability. It disconnects the charging circuit from the input in case of a faulty event and provides fault indication status for monitoring. This protection IC enhances thermal protection and incorporates thermal monitoring and shutdown features which cut off the internal circuit from output when the die temperature exceeds the thermal shutdown threshold (typically 140°C). It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 2 x 2 mm and is ideal for cell phones, smartphones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), MP3 players, digital cameras, and low-power handheld device applications.
