The MP2731 from Monolithic Power Systems is a Li-ion/Li-Polymer Linear Battery Charger that is ideal for tablet PCs, smartphones, wireless cameras, and other portable devices. It requires an input voltage of 3.7 - 16 V and an input current of 4.5 A. This charger has a low-impedance power path that optimizes efficiency, reduces battery charging time, and extends battery life. It works with NVDC Power Path Management that offers instant-on works with no battery or deeply discharged battery and ideal diode operation in battery supplement mode.

This battery charger IC supports a wide range of input sources, including standard USB host ports and high-powered wall adapters with fast charge capabilities. It provides USB on-the-go (OTG) operation and USB input type detection. This charger initiates and completes a charging cycle without software control. It integrates safety features such as charging safety timer, battery temperature monitoring, over-voltage, and over-current protection circuitries. This charger IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 3.5 x 3.5 mm.
