The RAJ240100 from Renesas is a Li-ion Battery Fuel Gauge IC that has been designed to support up to 10 Li-ion or Li-Polymer battery cells in series. It requires an input voltage of 4-50 V. This battery management IC (BMIC) integrates Renesas ultra-low power RL78 CPU core for multi-function process. It includes a microcontroller unit (MCU) and an analog front end (AFE) in a single package, facilitating comprehensive battery management functions. This BMIC monitors over/under voltage and temperature by a sigma-delta A/D converter without controlling from the MCU. It has an 18-bit resolution sigma-delta A/D converter specifically for current integration that allows for precise measurement of the current flow, which aids in state-of-charge (SoC) calculations. This IC includes an impedance measurement circuit that simultaneously measures the battery voltage and current.
This BMIC features a series regulator capable of providing either 3.3 V or 5.0 V output. It offers charge and discharge MOSFET control which includes an embedded high-side N-channel MOSFET drive circuit. This BMIC supports a real-time clock (RTC) function to connect to the external crystal resonator (32.768 kHz) and generate an internal clock for synchronization. It benefits from short circuit current detection, charge over-current detection, discharge over-current detection, charge wakeup current detection and discharge wakeup current detection functions. This BMIC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 10 x 10 x 1.7 mm and is ideal for e-bikes, e-scooters, pedal-assist bicycles, power tools, vacuum cleaners, drones, battery backup systems, and energy storage systems (ESS) applications.
