The BD99954GW-E2 from ROHM Semiconductor is a Li-Ion Battery Management IC that has been designed for space-constrained applications. It requires an input voltage of 3.8 - 25 V. This battery management IC (BMIC) functions as a dual-source battery charger which includes high efficiency step-up/down switching charger with two separate input sources for USB-VBUS and DC adapter, making it suitable for 1-4 cell Li-Ion/Li-poly batteries. It has two port BC1.2 detectors to ensure proper sequencing and supports USB BCS 1.2, ACA, ID pin, and OTG capabilities. This JEITA-compliant BMIC offers programmable parameters for preconditioning, precharge current, fast-charge current, charging voltage, charging current, and switching frequency to offer lower conversion loss during charging. It includes USB-VBUS battery over-voltage protection and battery short-circuit detection for improved safety and reliability.
This IC uses power path management technology and integrates a charge pump gate driver to minimize charging time while its battery learn function supports inhibit/autonomous charging. It provides a reverse buck/boost option for USB/USB-PD and a bias voltage output for the external thermistor. This battery management IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 2.6 x 3.0 x 0.62 mm and is ideal for ultrabook, notebook PC, ultra-mobile PC, and tablet PC applications.
