The STCC2540IQTR from STMicroelectronics is a USB Charging Controller IC that is ideal for USB ports/ hubs, personal computers, all-in-one PCs, monitors, notebooks, ultrabooks, tablet PCs, and universal wall charging adapters applications. It requires an input voltage of 4.5 - 5.5 V. This battery management IC (BMIC) consists of a USB charger controller, a wide bandwidth data switch, and a high current power switch in a single package. It emulates several profiles that are compatible with the USB battery charging standard, BC1.2, Chinese telecommunications standard YD/T 1591-2009, and proprietary charger modes. It asserts the charging flag in dedicated charging port (DCP) modes if the charging current is higher than the threshold, while in the charging downstream port (CDP) mode, it asserts the charging flag after the CDP negotiation if the charging current is higher than the threshold.
This BMIC includes safety features such as constant current mode over-current protection, short-circuit, thermal, under-voltage protection, reverse voltage, and reverse current protection. This controller also has a soft start functionality to limit the inrush current and allows the current limit to be adjusted up to 2.8 A. It can provide deglitched or error-free fault reports and indicates its charging status in DCP and CDP modes. This UL recognized BMIC supports remote wakeup in the S3 state to improve system efficiency. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 3 x 3 x 0.8 mm.
