The SA50-28-3R3S from Microchip Technology is a Radiation-Hardened Isolated Buck DC-DC Converter that converts an input voltage of 20 - 40 V to an output voltage of 3.3 V. It delivers an output power of up to 33 W and has an efficiency of 79%. This converter provides a radiation-hardened option for top-class total ionizing dose (TID) and single event effects (SEE) performance with a TID of over 100 krad (Si) and SEE (SEGR, SEB, SET, and SEL) immunity of 82 MeV.cm2/mg to cater to space and military applications. It consists of a forward converter topology with patented magnetic feedback, offering an optimized solution for applications where isolated DC voltage conversion is required. This DC-DC converter facilitates customization with reasonable lead time and modest NRE cost. It requires an external EMI/EMC filter to fulfill the requirements of the MIL-STD-461 standard and ensure high reliability under extreme radiation conditions.


This converter integrates a paralleling pin that allows the connection of up to 4 converter units to deliver a relatively higher power compared to a single unit. It is equipped with EAR99 export classification. This DC-DC converter is available in a rugged through-hole package that measures 3.055 x 2.055 x 0.5 inches.
