The MIC2310-1ZTS from Microchip Technology is a Constant Power-Limit Hot Swap Controller that has been designed to safely insert and remove PC boards to and from fixed, rack, and pedestal mid or +12 V back-planes using few external components. It requires an input voltage of 10.8 - 13.2 V and an input current of up to 10 mA. This eFuse IC consists of a control logic, an oscillator, detectors, glitch filters, timer circuit, voltage regulator, MOSFETs, current sources, protection circuitries and other passive components. It employs a patent-pending, output load power-limiting technique where the current limit is inversely proportional output load voltage to make sure that the device does not exceed the programmed power limit and over-current period. This IC can be used to address the power limiting and timing requirements as per the UL60950 specification for 240 VA applications. It incorporates a high-side controller circuitry for an external N-channel MOSFET and uses a capacitor to externally program the rate of change of drain current.
This controller IC can adjust the response time of primary over-current detector using an external current sense resistor and uses 2-bit digital interface to program the secondary over-current detector, ensuring excellent power supply protection. It also provides an analog output (voltage) signal that is proportional to the steady-state load current, which allows for monitoring of the system’s power. This eFuse IC further includes a power good signal to indicate a valid output voltage that can be used to enable a DC-DC power module. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 7.80 x 6.40 mm and is ideal for base stations, enterprise servers, high-reliability servers, enterprise switch networks, and general power-limiting applications.
