The MP5000A from Monolithic Power Systems is a Programmable Current Limiting Switch IC that has been designed to protect circuitry on the output (source) due to transients from input (Vcc).  It requires an input voltage of 10 - 18 V. This eFuse IC includes control logic, current limit block, latch, error compensation, voltage clamping circuit, dv/dt transient circuit, power MOSFETs, and other protection circuits. It offers an integrated solution to monitor the input voltage, output voltage, output current, and die temperature. The eFuse IC can also protect the input VCC due to undesired shorts and transients generated from the source. This eFuse IC limits the in-rush current during start-up by limiting the slew rate at the source and integrates a small capacitor at the dv/dt pin to control the slew rate. It consists of an internal circuit at the dv/dt pin that allows the customer to float this pin (no connect) and still achieve 0.9 ms ramp time at the source.

This eFuse IC integrates an internal charge pump that drives the gate of the power device, allowing a very low on-resistance DMOS power FET of 40 milli-ohms. It consists of under-voltage lockout protection (UVLO), thermal shutdown protection (TSP), and over-voltage protection (OVP), to prevent short-circuit or over-heating-related damages. It is available in a surface mount package that measures 3 x 3 mm and is ideal for hot-swap, laptops, and PC card applications.
