The STEF05LPUR from STMicroelectronics is an Electronic Fuse that has been optimized for monitoring output current and the input voltage on 5 V DC power lines. It requires an input voltage of 4.5 - 8 V and delivers an output current of 3.6 A. It can detect and respond to over-current and over-voltage conditions when connected in series to the main power rail and limits the output current to a safe value defined by the user. This e-fuse enters into an open state, thereby disconnecting the load from the power supply if an anomalous over-load condition persists. It limits the output current to a safer value when a continuous short-circuit is present on the board. This e-fuse has a voltage clamping circuit which limits the output voltage even if the input voltage exceeds the recommended standards. It is provided with a thermal protection circuit which signals the board monitoring circuits with an appropriate FAULT pin, making it less susceptible to short-circuit/thermal-breakdown-related damages. This RoHS-compliant e-fuse IC can automatically re-apply power in case of a thermal fault (auto-retry version). It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 3 x 3 mm and is ideal for hard disk drives, solid-state drives (SSD), hard disk and SSD arrays, computer, DVD, and Blu-Ray disc driver applications.
