The LT3592 from Analog Devices is a High-Current Buck LED Driver that is ideal for automotive signal lighting, industrial lighting, constant-current, and constant voltage supply applications. It requires an input voltage of 3.6 – 36 V. This LED driver uses an external sense resistor to accurately monitor and regulate the output current. It can dim the output current by a factor of 10, which is particularly useful for applications such as nighttime brake lights. This LED driver operates at a high switching frequency, thereby enabling the use of smaller inductors and capacitors to save valuable space and cost. It offers constant switching frequency combined with low-impedance ceramic capacitors that ensure low and predictable output ripple. This driver utilizes a current mode pulse width modulation (PWM) architecture to exhibit a fast transient response while the thermal shutdown function adds a layer of protection. This driver is available in a surface-mount package that measures 2 x 3 mm.
