The AL5816 from Diodes Incorporated is an Adjustable Constant Current Linear LED Controller IC that is designed to offer excellent temperature stability and current capability. It requires an input voltage of 4.5 - 60 V. This LED driver IC consists of five terminals that integrate a Bipolar transistor/MOSFET, current sense resistor, input capacitor, and LEDs. It controls the regulation of LED current by maintaining minimum power dissipation compared to traditional linear LED drivers. This driver delivers sufficient output current that allows it to drive external bipolar transistors or MOSFETs and can also drive longer LED chains with low drop-out voltage and multiple LED channels.
The AL5816 consists of a sense resistor to control the amount of LED current and is calibrated to a precise voltage to efficiently control the current. This LED driver includes built-in under voltage lockout (UVLO) and over-temperature shutdown functions to prevent false trigger or over-heating related damages.
