The AL8853AQS-13 from Diodes Incorporated is an Automotive Qualified Boost/SEPIC LED Controller IC that has been designed to provide a high-performance LED lighting solution at a low bill of materials (BOM) cost. It requires an input voltage of 6 - 40 V and a supply current of 2 mA. This controller consists of a pulse width modulation (PWM) control, PWM comparator, control logic, gate driver, error amplifier (EA), current sense with built-in resistors, and protection circuitries. It implements a peak current-mode control scheme and an internal transconductance amplifier to accurately control the output LED current over a wide range of input and load conditions. This AEC-Q100 Grade 1-qualified LED driver is enabled by applying a voltage greater than 2.5 V and when the first rising edge is applied to the PWM pin, the IC will power up immediately and remains powered up until the input voltage drops below 1.3 V (for up to 20 ms). It uses an external current-sense resistor to sense the LED output current and compares its voltage with a reference level of 200 mV.
This LED driver controller’s integrated error amplifier amplifies the error to control the pulse width of the power switch to regulate the current flowing through the LED. It also offers PWM converted-to-analog DC dimming mode for a wide range of dimming control operations. It includes built-in MOSFET over-current protection (OCP), output over-voltage protection (OVP), IC power supply under voltage lockout (UVLO), LED open protection, and over-temperature protection to prevent short-circuit or false trigger-related damages. This LED driver is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4.85 x 5.90 mm and is ideal for lights, reversing lights, daytime running lights, headlamps, auto head-up displays, infotainment and cluster backlight displays, automotive LED lamps, and DC-DC power conversion, applications.
