The ICL8820 from Infineon Technologies is a Single-stage Flyback LED Driver that is ideal for battery charging, home appliances, LED drivers, smart lighting, and emergency lighting applications. It requires an input voltage of 90 – 300 V. This controller is optimized for high-power factor flyback topologies with support for secondary side regulation (SSR) and primary side regulation (PSR). It operates in quasi-resonant mode (QRM), preventing continuous conduction mode (CCM) and enabling valley switching discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) in mid- to light-load conditions. This driver offers adjustable on-time mapping and maximum on-time to manage input power and current, ensuring safe operation under low-line conditions. 

This LED driver includes a comprehensive set of protection capabilities such as internal over-temperature protection, flyback output over-voltage protection, and brown-in/brown-out protection. It also has a soft start feature to reduce component stress during startup and an external start-up circuit control signal to optimize performance. This LED driver adds a jitter function at the DC input to aid in electromagnetic interference (EMI) compliance, which is particularly useful for emergency lighting applications. This LED driver is available in a surface-mount package that measures 5.02 x 6.02 x 1.75 mm.
