The ASL5008SHV from NXP Semiconductors is an Automotive-Qualified Flexible Matrix LED Controller IC that provides a cost-effective design solution, specifically targeting advanced automotive exterior lighting applications. It requires an input voltage of 5 V. This AEC-Q100 Grade 1-qualified controller consists of a CAN controller, 9-bit A/D converter, abnormal condition detectors, multiplexer, phase shifter, switches, voltage references, MOSFETs, charge pump, and modulation blocks. It can store polynomials internally for up to eight pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming curves and does not require a microcontroller to continuously transmit updated PWM dimming information to each LED switch. This LED controller provides the functionality to correct for LED brightness variations to ensure a homogenous light output from LEDs i.e. luminance variations with the same LED current. It also includes diagnostic features such as direct identification resistor input for PCB characterization, single LED open/short detection and protection, and power-on-reset monitoring for off-board configuration.
This AEC-Q006-qualified controller can be mounted close to the LEDs on an IMS PCB and has optimized pins to avoid any crossing tracks, allowing the use of single-layer PCBs. It supports an internal 200 MHz oscillator that prevents the use of an external quartz clock for synchronization and clock generation, and all the internal clocks are synchronized to the built-in oscillator for a very accurate clocking within the device. This LED controller also offers the possibility to be scaled, owing to its excellent pin-to-pin compatibility. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 6 x 6 mm and is ideal for matrix/pixel high/low beam, welcoming scenarios, dynamic turning indicators, and other automotive lighting applications.
