The SC620 from Semtech is a Multi-Purpose Octal LED driver IC that is ideal for LCD backlighting LED driver, multi-color, and RGB LED driver, general purpose current sink array, general purpose digital output (open-drain) expander, and auto-focus voice-coil driver applications. It requires an input voltage of less than 6 V. This LED driver consists of digital-to-analog converters, current sources, eight identical current drivers, digital interface and control registers, voltage reference, eight integrated RGB LEDs, and a battery. It uses each current sink to drive an LED by connecting the LED's anode to the power supply of the IC and the cathode to the input pin of the current sink. This LED driver IC can be used to enable or disable any combination of outputs for optimal design flexibility. It employs an adjustable global current gain setting register to allow the current setting step size to vary from 31.25 to 500 μA.
This WEEE-compliant Octal LED driver provides a wide range of options for LED variation and dimming functions. It utilizes floating cathode technology to drive multiple multi-colored and white LEDs with different forward voltage values, thereby allowing each output pin to vary the voltage from 150 mV to VIN - 1.5 V. This IC uses an I2C interface bus to program all the current control operations and requires only a single input bypass capacitor, eliminating the need to use external resistors or capacitors. It includes under-voltage lockout (UVLO), over-temperature protection (OTP), and output short-circuits protection (SCP) to prevent false triggers, over-heating and over-current-related damages. This RoHS-compliant LED driver is available in a surface mount package that measures 3.10 x 3.10 mm.
