The A5984GESTR-T from Allegro MicroSystems is a Microstepping Motor Driver IC that has been designed to control bipolar stepper motors from full-step up to 1/32 step modes. It requires an input voltage of up to 40 V and provides an output current of less than 2 A. It utilizes a proprietary adaptive percent fast decay (APFD) algorithm to produce a refined current waveform over a wide range of stepper speeds and stepper motor characteristics to improve overall system performance with minimal motor noise. This motor driver has a built-in translator that provides easy implementation to drive the motor by simply providing a single-pulse input, thereby avoiding the need for any complex microprocessor to perform the operation. It is provided with a fault pin and integrates thermal shutdown, under-voltage lockout (UVLO), and crossover-current protection for improved circuit immunity. This motor controller is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 4 x 0.75 mm and is ideal for video security cameras, robotics, printers, ATMs, scanners, and POS applications.
