The AOZ6812QI from Alpha & Omega Semiconductor is a 3-Phase Motor Controller Unit that has been designed to drive sensorless or sensored BLDC/PMSM motors, single/three-phase induction motors, and servo motors. It requires an input voltage of 3-5.5 V (low-voltage supply), 5-24 V (high-voltage supply), and 5-36 V (dual power supply). This unit consists of an 8051 core, a motor control engine (ME) core, operational amplifiers, comparators, high-speed ADC, multiplier/divider, interfaces, timers, and an LDO regulator. The ME core includes FOC, MDU, LPF, PID, and SVPWM modules that allow for automatic calculation of FOC or square-wave control directly on the hardware. It uses both cores in parallel to achieve high-performance motor control.
This motor controller unit supports Hall/BEMF-based position sensing for controlling the BLDC motor and limits the current during every cycle to ensure a faultless operation. It uses analog peripherals such as 12-bit ADC with a conversion time of 1 µs to accurately read the sensor data via built-in I2C, SPI, and UART interfaces. This controller has dedicated timers with built-in stable 24 MHz/32.8 kHz oscillators to correctly synchronize QEP decoding, BLDC motor, and RTC operations. It also has a 2-wire FICE protocol-based in-circuit emulator to debug the control software. This unit is available in a surface-mount package that measures 8.8 x 8.8 mm and is ideal for hair dryers, ceiling fans, range hoods, air conditioner indoor units, industrial fans, and refrigerator applications.
