The MAX22203 from Analog Devices is a Dual H-Bridge Motor Driver that has been designed to control brushed DC motors, stepper motors, and solenoids. It requires an input voltage of 4.5 – 65 V and provides an output current of less than 3.8 A. This driver integrates current drive regulation (CDR) with internal current sensing (ICS) to limit the start-up current of a brushed DC motor or control the phase current for stepper motor operation and eliminate the need for bulky external resistors. It provides current drive regulation by supporting multiple decay modes (slow, mixed, and fast), configurable fixed-off time via external resistance, and internal current sensing.
This driver also includes a fault indicator pin, a current-sense output for monitoring, and safety functions such as over-current protection (OCP), thermal shutdown (TSD), and under-voltage lockout (UVLO). It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 5 x 7 mm and is suitable for brushed DC motor driver, stepper motor driver, solvent driver, and latched valve applications.
