The AH9485 from Diodes Incorporated is a Single Phase Smart Motor Driver IC that has been designed to drive single-phase (coil) brushless DC motors. It requires an input voltage of 2 - 6 V and provides an output current of 0.5 A. This smart motor driver is a single-chip-based driver IC that integrates a motor driver and a high-sensitivity Hall effect sensor to simplify the circuit and PCB design. It also incorporates a built-in open drain tachometer frequency generator (FG) and rotation detection (RD) outputs to allow an external interface to remotely monitor motor rotation, speed, or rotor lock conditions. The FG of this motor driver IC provides magnetic change frequency while the RD provides the rotor status. It has a full bridge output stage that utilizes a soft-switching technique to minimize the audible switching noise (vibration and acoustic noise) and electromagnetic interference (EMI), thereby resulting in a low-noise solution.
This IC is designed with a rotor lock to detect, shut down, and auto-restart functions to prevent the motor from overheating when the rotor is locked, and restarts the motor after the lock is removed. It includes a built-in over-temperature shutdown feature that provides thermal protection for the device. This RoHS-compliant motor driver IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 2.85 x 1.55 mm and is ideal for 5 V low noise BLDC cooling fans, low voltage / low power BLDC motors, notebook / VGA DC fans/blowers and micro-motors applications.
