The BRD1160C from Power Integrations is a Half-Bridge Motor Driver that is designed to dramatically simplify the development and production of high-voltage inverter-driven 1 or 3-phase PM/BLDC motor drives. It requires an input voltage of 600 V and has an output current of up to 1 A. This motor driver consists of two high-voltage N-channel power FREDFETs with low and high-side drivers. These FREDFETs offer ultra-soft and ultra-fast diodes that are ideally suited for hard switched inverter drives. This motor driver is self-powered thus eliminating the need for an external power supply and also provides a unique instantaneous phase current output signal that simplifies the implementation of sensor-less control schemes.
The BRD1160C offers internal fault protection that includes cycle-by-cycle current limit, dual-level thermal overload protection, and simultaneous lockout protection to prevent false operation or short-circuit-related damages. It also reports status updates and device faults to reset information via a bidirectional bussed open-drain single wire interface. This motor driver is available in a surface-mount package that measures 9.40 x 10.80 mm and is ideal for 1 or 3-phase high-voltage PM and BLDC motor drives, dishwashers, refrigerators, and condenser fans in high-efficiency air conditioners, and other home appliance applications.
