The BRD2261C-TL from Power Integrations is a Half-Bridge Motor Driver that has been designed for high-voltage inverter-driven 1/3-phase PM or BLDC motor drives. It requires an input voltage of 0.8-2.5 V and an input current of ±1.1 µA. This self-powered motor driver combines 2 high-voltage FRED FETs, gate drivers, controllers, and protection circuitries in a single package. The FRED FETs are connected in a half-bridge configuration where their diode structure makes them suitable for hard-switched-based motor drivers. The driver controllers of this IC feature high-voltage current sources, allowing them to draw current directly from the high-voltage DC bus. The high-side controller provides status update to the low-side controller, which generates an instantaneous phase-current output signal, allowing the implementation of sensor-less motor control scheme.
This motor driver includes internal fault protection functions to limit the current of both FRED FETs during each cycle and eliminate the impact of thermal over-loading. It also has an external system level monitoring that supports DC bus sensing, 4 under-voltage levels, and 1 over-voltage level for enhanced protection. This driver IC integrates a bi-directional bussed single wire interface that reports status updates of the observed changes in the protection circuit. This motor driver offers extended creepage distances and allows the heat from both the power FRED FETs to sink through the PCB board. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 10.80 x 1.60 mm and is ideal for dish washers, refrigerators, ceiling fans, fans in high efficiency air conditioners, circulation pump applications.
