The BridgeSwitch-2 Series from Power Integrations are Half-Bridge Motor Drivers that has been designed to simplify the design of high-voltage inverter-driven single or three-phase PM/BLDC motor drives. They require an input voltage of 12.8 V (bypass) and provide an output current of up to 3 A. These driver ICs incorporate two high-voltage N-channel power FREDFETs with low-side and high-side drivers in a small package. The FREDFETs include very soft and fast diodes ideally suited for hard-switched inverter drives. The low-side and high-side drivers are self-powered and therefore, eliminate the need for an external auxiliary power supply. These motor drivers provide a unique instantaneous phase output current signal to simplify the implementation of sensor-less control schemes.
These half-bridge motor drivers offer internal fault protection functions (e.g. cycle-by-cycle current limit and thermal over-load protections) and external system level monitoring (e.g. DC bus sensing and under-voltage lockout) for reliable performance. They also include a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) sensor for measuring the IC temperature. The motor drivers can be controlled via an MCU unit to report status updates on parameters such as power, over-current faults, and device identification. They are available in surface-mount packages that measure 13.63 x 1.45 mm and are ideal for circulation pumps, fans in high-efficiency ACs, dishwashers, refrigerators, ceiling fans, and other electrical appliances.
