The MC34708VK from NXP Semiconductors is a Power Management IC that has been specifically designed for use with Freescale’s i.MX50 and i.MX53 families. It requires an input voltage of 2.7 - 5.5 V. It is based on SMARTMOS technology and features six multi-mode buck regulators for direct supply of the processor core, memory, and peripherals. This PMIC includes eight regulators with internal and external pass devices for thermal budget optimization. It is also equipped with real-time clock and crystal oscillator circuitry with coin cell backup and charger. This PMIC incorporates a boost regulator for USB OTG support and SPI/I2C serial bus interface for control and register interface. It benefits from a 10-bit ADC device for monitoring the battery and other input sources. This PMIC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 8 x 8 x 0.5 mm and is ideal for smart home, tablets, smart mobile devices, and portable navigation applications.
