The MC34PF3000A4EP from NXP Semiconductors is a Power Management IC that has been specifically designed for use with NXPs i.MX 7 and i.MX 6SL/SX/UL application processors. It requires an input voltage of 2.8 - 5.5 V. This IC consists of four switching regulators, four linear regulators, a boost regulator, bias and references, a Li-cell charger, OTP startup configuration with RTC supply, logic and control, and fault detection/protection circuits. It is powered by SMARTMOS technology and uses built-in regulators and other rails to provide power for a complete system, including application processors, memory, and system peripherals. This PMIC uses the integrated one-time-programmable (OTP) memory to set the output voltage, startup sequence, and other functions, thereby providing flexibility and reducing external component count. It also includes a specific voltage reference to generate an accurate reference voltage for DDR memories.
The IC incorporates a front-end LDO regulator with an external pass FET to maintain the maximum input voltage at 4.5 V when used for applications that are powered by mains supply with voltages higher than 4.5 V. It has an I2C interface for remote programming and control along with additional communication support provided by direct logic interfaces. This PMIC also allows the internal 16 MHz clock and switching frequency of the regulators to be optimally adjusted to improve the noise integrity of the system. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 7 x 7 mm and is ideal for tablets, eReaders, industrial control, POS terminals, medical monitoring, home automation, home security, and wearable applications.
