The PFS5173F from Power Integrations is an Advanced Power Factor Correction (PFC) Controller IC that is optimized to provide high power factor and efficiency across the load range. It has an input voltage from 90-305 V. This PFC controller IC offers a high integration level and uses a novel quasi-resonant DCM control algorithm that results in low switching losses, and reduced inductor size than conventional power factor ICs. It integrates an automatic capacitor discharge device and a high-voltage start-up mechanism to provide self-biasing for the circuit. This PMIC allows the user to select the power limit that enables rapid prototyping of different test sizes using the same design, thereby resulting in rapid optimization. It uses a digital line-peak-detector to deliver optimum performance even when the input voltage generated from UPS or generators is distorted.
This PFS5173F enables efficient paralleling of PFC stages to further enhance the output power. It incorporates various protection circuitries such as under-voltage, over-current, and over-voltage to prevent the IC from short-circuit or over-load-related damages. This PFC controller IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 9.40 x 13.43 mm and is ideal for printers, LCD TV, 80 Plus Platinum, video game consoles, high-power adapters and USB PD 3.1 rapid charging, high-power LED lighting, generic PFC converters, appliances, and industrial applications.
