The STUSB4761QTR from STMicroelectronics is a Standalone USB PD Controller IC that is designed and optimized to address USB type-C and Power Delivery (PD) provider services. It requires an input voltage of 4.1 - 22 V. This PMIC uses internal non-volatile memory to store default parameters and implements up to 5 Power Data Objects (PDO) to autonomously negotiate a power delivery contract with the sink. It does not require any internal or external software (autorun mode), thereby making it suitable for provider services where digital or software intelligence is limited or missing. This device integrates a CC/CV regulation loop that allows a fully regulated PMIC unit to be implemented with a minimum Bill of Materials (BOM) cost.
This controller IC is equipped with a built-in hardware USB PD stack that enables it to conduct a robust, predictable, and safe negotiation with the sink by the USB PD standard. It offers customizable power data objects (PDOs), under-voltage lockout (UVLO) protection, over-voltage lockout (OVLO) protection, an integrated discharge path, and a high-side current sensing element to detect and prevent short-circuit-related damages. This PMIC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 3 x 3 mm and is ideal for AC adapters, smart plugs, wall adapters, and power supplies for computer, consumer, portable consumer, and industrial applications.
