The LTC4296-1 from Analog Devices is an IEEE 802.3cg-Compliant 5-Port Single-Pair Power Over Ethernet (SPOE) Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) Controller. It requires an input voltage of 6-60 V and provides an output power of up to 79 W. This PSE controller is designed for interoperability with 802.3cg powered devices (PDs) in 24 V or 54 V systems. It delivers power using external N-channel MOSFETs that minimize voltage drop. This controller includes high-side circuit breakers with foldback, analog current limit (ACL) to provide controlled inrush and short-circuit protection. It includes a 52 µA and 51 μA input supply current in sleep and disabled states, respectively.

This PSE controller supports serial communication classification protocol (SCCP) and maintains full voltage signature (MFVS) to ensure that the full operating voltage is only applied to the cable when a PD is present. It includes an SPI bus interface with packet error code (PEC) protection for telemetry, status, and software control. This controller supports PD sleep, wake-up, and wake-up forwarding features.
