The SI34061-GM from Skyworks Solutions is a Power-Over-Ethernet Plus (PoE+) Controller that is designed to integrate all power management and control functions required in a PoE+-powered device (PD) application. It requires an input voltage of 2.7 - 57 V and delivers an output power of 30 W. This controller converts the high voltage power supplied to the 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet connection into a regulated, low-voltage output supply. It offers an optimized architecture that utilizes low-cost external components to reduce external cost and solution footprint without comprising system performance. This PoE controller incorporates diode bridges and a transient surge suppressor to prevent electrical overstress. It includes a current-controlled switching regulator that supports both isolated and non-isolated flyback and buck converter topologies and prevents unwanted harmonics by tuning with an external resistor.

This controller also has a synchronous driver which can optionally drive a secondary side FET transistor to improve power conversion efficiency. It supports the IEEE 802.3at specification for single or two-event classification. This PoE controller requires main transformer bias winding support for ultra-high efficiency operation. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 5 x 5 mm and is ideal for voice-over IP telephones, wireless access points, security, and surveillance IP cameras, lighting luminaries, point-of-sale terminals, internet appliances, and network devices applications.
