The IPS2050H from STMicroelectronics is a Dual High Side Power Switch IC that has been designed to drive inductive, resistive, and capacitive loads with one side connected to ground. It requires an input voltage of 8 - 60 V. This IC includes control logic, interface circuit, voltage supply clamp, under voltage lockout (UVLO), output clamp, temperature detection, and current limitation circuits. It independently protects each output channel against junction over-temperature events using a junction temperature sensor, and also integrates an additional temperature sensor to monitor the case temperature. This power switch embeds per-channel over-load protection circuit that monitors the output current, and upon triggering the activation threshold, modulates the impedance to limit the output current. It intelligently drives capacitive loads and loads with initial peak current requirements using two different sets of activation thresholds and limitation levels.
This power switch IC offers diagnostics based on two fault pins with one per channel. It activates the fault pin when an over-load or an over-temperature event occurs on the respective channel. The IC has also been designed to meet IEC 61000-4-2, IEC 61000-4-4, and IEC 61000-4-5 standards. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 8 x 6 x 0.9 mm and is ideal for vending machines, numerical control machines, industrial PC peripheral I/O, PLC, and general high side switch applications.
