The WLC1150-68LQXQ from Infineon Technologies is a Wireless Charging Transmitter IC that has been designed to support WPC Qi v1.3x extended power profile (EPP) and basic power profile (BPP) specifications. It requires an input voltage of 4.5 - 24 V and delivers an output power of up to 50 W. This transmitter IC consists of an ARM Cortex-M0 CPU, 128 kB flash memory, 16 KB SRAM, 3 KB ROM, bus interface, integrated digital blocks, I/O sub-system, wireless controller with integrated power delivery (PD) unit (gate drivers, demodulators, decoders, amplifiers, LDO, ADC, slew rate control), USB PD legacy charging protocols – QC 2.0/3.0, AFC and Apple charging, and protection circuits. It offers a cost-effective solution for various applications by addressing critical system needs such as thermal management, electromagnetic interference (EMI) reduction, foreign object detection (FOD), high efficiency, and others. This charging IC can receive input power either from USB PD/PPS or fixed input from a DC power supply. It can support multiple input configurations and eliminates the need for utilizing DC-DC converters, allowing it achieve to a significantly high system gain as required by a high-power system.
This wireless charging IC integrates a buck controller for a fan that enables cooling of the surface of an interface when high power is delivered. It uses frequency, duty cycle, and variable voltage adjustments for inverter control along with I2C and UART ports for remote monitoring and control. This IC includes over-current protection (OCP), over-voltage protection (OVP), over-temperature protection (OTP), and an internal temperature sensor to prevent short-circuit or over-heating-related damages. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 8 x 8 x 0.65 mm and is ideal for docking stations, vacuum cleaners, robotics, drones, smartphone charger with Qi EPP (up to 15 W), wireless charging pads with power proprietary protocol (50 W), and industrial wireless charging applications.
