Webinar Overview

From everyday devices such as induction cookers and inductive chargers to industrial power electronics, high-frequency applications have found their way into our world. However, increasing the applied frequency raises the losses in a conductor due to the skin and proximity effects. Improving product designs by reducing heat generation and material usage are key aspects of their development. To avoid an increase in unwanted loss under high-frequency operation, litz wires are commonly used. These special wires consist of up to thousands of individual conductor strands, bundled and twisted to ensure an even current distribution across the strand bundle. Detailed modeling of these complex geometries is a considerable challenge, if not practically impossible.

In this webinar, several advanced litz wire modeling techniques will be discussed, including explicit 2D or 3D finite element modeling and the use of analytical, empirical, or measured data. Additionally, we will cover how the computed loss can be included in thermal and structural simulations to allow for a complete power electronics design.
