A Single-Ended Primary Inductance Converter (SEPIC) design can be a good fit for a battery powered system. It can generate output voltage higher or lower than the input voltage with less components comparing to other topologies. Additionally, its AC coupled capacitor inherently separates the output from the input. LED lighting is one example where SEPIC converters can be used in an automotive application.
